Low-smoke Zero-Halogen (LSZH) Marine Cables
Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen (LSZH) marine cables are essential safety-grade wiring solutions designed for shipboard and offshore environments. Technically, these cables adopt halogen-free insulating and sheathing compounds defined by IEC 60092-360, the core international standard for marine cable materials. Unlike ordinary PVC marine cables that release dense smoke and corrosive halogen gas during combustion, LSZH cables greatly improve fire safety, crew evacuation visibility, and equipment survival rate in fire accidents.
Overview
Marine Compliance & Core Test Standards
All our LSZH marine cables fully comply with IEC 60092 series marine electrical regulations and meet strict IMO FTP Code fire safety requirements for commercial vessels and offshore units. The key third-party test standards guarantee stable and reliable safety performance:
- IEC 60754-1 / IEC 60754-2: Verify halogen-free property and low acidity. No corrosive halogen gas is released during burning, protecting ship electronic systems, metal structures and navigation equipment from secondary damage.
- IEC 61034-2: Control smoke density. High light transmittance ensures clear escape visibility in enclosed cabins, corridors and control rooms during fire emergencies.
- IEC 60332-3-22: Pass bunched flame retardant tests, effectively preventing large-area flame spread on cable trays and reducing fire expansion risks.
SHF1 and SHF2 Halogen-Free Material Classification (IEC 60092-360)
According to IEC 60092-360 standard specifications, marine halogen-free sheath materials are divided into two professional grades to adapt to different shipboard working conditions:
- SHF1 (Thermoplastic Halogen-Free): Suitable for indoor dry environments, accommodation areas, control rooms and general cabin wiring. It provides stable low-smoke and halogen-free performance with flexible installation advantages.
- SHF2 (Cross-linked Halogen-Free): Enhanced cross-linked material with better heat resistance, oil resistance and mechanical stability. It is specially used for machinery spaces, engine rooms and offshore platforms with high temperature, oil pollution and long-term vibration.
Key Advantages for Marine & Offshore Applications
Traditional marine cables with PVC sheath will produce toxic, corrosive hydrogen halide gas when burned. This gas not only endangers crew health but also corrodes precision ship instruments, communication devices and metal pipelines, causing irreversible secondary losses. Our LSZH marine cables completely avoid these risks. They produce almost no toxic fumes or corrosive gas, and greatly reduce smoke concentration, creating safer evacuation and fire-rescue conditions.
In addition, LSZH marine cables feature stable flame retardancy, excellent ageing resistance and strong environmental adaptability. They can withstand long-term marine high humidity, salt mist erosion and structural vibration, ensuring long-term stable operation on board.
Typical Shipboard Installation Scenarios
Due to strict SOLAS and IMO safety requirements, LSZH marine cables are mandatory or preferred for high-safety-level ship areas:
- Passenger ships, ferries and luxury yacht full-range wiring
- Crew accommodation cabins, public corridors and escape routes
- Central control rooms, navigation and communication equipment circuits
- Offshore platforms, marine engineering equipment and living modules
- Indoor enclosed spaces requiring zero secondary corrosion risk
